Penang, Oct 2008

Was in Penang for a working trip on the 28th f this month. Came back the next day...freaking poofed I tell you...KNN!!

The ISO Audit exercise went well albeit some minor hitches but this post is not about my freaking boring work...its about the Penang that I grew up in and the Penang that I love.

Managed to meet up with my cousins at the Chillout Terrace at Gurney Hotel ( I think I got the name correct ). Thanks for coming at such a short notice Pam, Mandy, Johnathan and Magnus. Chit chatted with them for a while catching up on old times and also on our current status. Throughout the night, I was very pleased to note that my colleague, Ngu got on very well with them.

From the CHillout Terrace we later adjourned to a beautiful and tastefully decorated KTV owned by my Auntie Maggie. Happy to see that she is doing very well on her own....for that, I salute you.

Finished the night by having Nasi Kandat at Fettes Park with Ngu before turning in at 3.00am..gawd!!

Below are some pics I took of my beloved Penang during my limited time there....

AND

Who was it that told me Penang is a boring place? was it Sam?

Btw Sam, Paurene sends her regards...she said to tell you that she misses your cute bunny looks and curly hair....and to call on her whenever you are free..

Dalian, China

Been here since the 16th Oct and will be here until the 25th.....some might ask for what?

For the Factory Acceptance ( FAT ) Test of the Putrajaya International Convention Center ( PICC ) Project's Direct Fired Chiller.

Country : China
Area: Dalian
Location: Sanyo Factory
Temp: cold"ish"

My mission here is to make sure that the FAT pass and my function here is of a dual type......work and CEO..

Spent last Saturday and Sunday "guiding" my esteemed clients for a walk-walk around Dalian area. Took them to a famous shopping area in town for some grab-as-u-go-super-dirt-cheap type bargains and ended up spending the whole day there as their translator..KNNCCB!!! I seldom speak mandarin in Malaysia and to my friends, therefore its not a surprise Wifey will always laugh her head off whenever I try to act goofy and start speaking mandarin with her....

KNN..translator? lucky me that my mandarin can "cari makan" or sure will trip myself up kaukau.

Thank God that Sanyo provided a factory bus and a translator to help me out during Sunday's excursion or I will warded with acute lock jaw syndrome.

Below are some photographs I took of the FAT with my landfill cam ( didn't take my DSLR with me ) for a feel of my work..

Sad to say that I didn't have the chance for some shots on Saturday as I was pretty bogged down with the translating bit for my clients..but Sunday was a different story alltogether. I had some time to myself to browse and take some pics of my own. Below is a place in Dalian where people come from all across Dalian and China for a visit. Managed to take some overview shots of the place...wished that I brought my DSLR for the wide angle lens to work its wonders. Neways, enjoy the photos ( a few only )....

And here's a photo of me with my principle's translator..Miss Yeo

And one more

Thats all folks...

Hopefully will get an "PASSED" status for my Factory Acceptance Test cos I really worked my butt off to make the clients happy and dopey....really, its true!!

Me a Photog?

Been a while since I seriously immensed myself into photography...t'was so long until I can't remember how long...well to give fellow photogs out there an indication of time, it was from the days of the Canon AE-1....thats how long ago.

I have a few colleagues that are avid and good photographers but sadly like me, they do not have the time to really indulge in their favourite pastime...mostly its because of work commitments and all that jazz.

I sometimes feel sheepish when they ask me question on photography....modern type of questions relating to DSLRs...

"What is CCD", "What is CMOS", "What is Full frame" , "Why the bokeh", etc...

Please do not get me wrong, their questions are good questions....so good that sometimes an old man like me is struggling to provide an answer. Must admit that I am ok to most types of questions but there is one that I make a point to stay away from....its "Which brand of camera is better?". Personally for me, any brand is a good brand....there is no "best of the best" brand out there.

Every camera company is a Legend in their own right with their own pros and admittingly, their own cons as well. A note to future photogs, do your own research before an intended purchase as to eliminate any future niggling doubts...choose well and choose wisely.

Personally, most of the answer can be sourced from the net but its also quite fun to sit in a group and talk cams instead of girls...ah well, maybe talk cams AND girls. For the record, I own a Nikon D80 DSLR and some 3rd party lens...nothing fancy, nothing bad, nothing good.

I like to take photographs of people, potraitures, sceneries, macros ( no time for this one now ), places and such. For me, candid shots are once in a lifetime opportunity for rememberance that requires one to sometime go on the "draw and shoot" technique...no time for manual and whatchamacalit adjustments....just take, bang the cam into auto mode, point and shoot!!! you either get it or you don't..no two ways about it.. AND thats what I like most about these type of photography as opposed to "staged" type.

Maybe I will try delving into different forms of picture taking if time and my brain cells permits...B&Ws, Artistic, etc

Btw, for those that wants to know more or take the plunge into photography, click here for a site that has loads of tips, tricks and advice for new/seasoned photogs. With that said, please be informed that this site has no relavance whatsoever to my personal preference...it is just a site amongst the countless many on the web.

As the title of my site goes, its 2 every1 his/her OWN.....................

Note: I am a lousy photographer and my skill sucks big time

Sunway Lagoon

Took my kids to Sunway Lagoon ( so called Malaysia's Premier Waterpark ) last Sunday for some fun in the sun activities and boy, did they have fun.....

Isaac and Ivan did not get much sleep the day before because they were locked in hyper mood....so it was not a surprise that they woke me up at 6.00am telling me to brush my teeth and get ready to leave just in case we are late...late? at 6am? hahahahaha...such was their enthusiasm.

Arrived the Lagoon at 9.50am, paid Rm300+ ( 4 adults + 2 kids ) for the admission plus RM60 towards the deposit of the watch type band thingies that each of us had.

Proceeded to the Water Slides before moving onto the Wave Pool. It was not before long that Isaac was pestering me to take him to the G Force X ride ( by AJ Hackett ) that was the newest attraction at the Lagoon. It cost RM50 per pax for foreigners but one will get a 50% discount if you show your MyKad....I ended up spending RM65 because my son ( Isaac ) went twice ( RM 50 ) and the remainder was for a DVD of his ride. Wifey was screaming like a mad loon from the moment Isaac was shot into the blue...boing,boinging for about a minute or so before he was lowered down...kekekekekeke. Me? I stayed as far away as possible loh...getting too old for this type of 5Gs thingy that accelerates from 0 to 120 km/h in 2 seconds...

Next on the agenda was lunch before proceeding to the pools for another round of swimming. We ended the day by going on the rides at the Theme Park section.

I am glad to see my family enjoying themselves so much...thats the least I can do before going off to Bahrain for my project stint there...sheeeesh! Will miss them so much but work is work...maybe will go to another less demanding scope upon the completion of this project...who knows huh?

Neways, apart from the photos of "fun in the sun" that I took of my family, there are also some special pics below titled "Beautiful People"...please bear with me on the quality of some of the pics because most of them were "quick draw and shoot" type of shots...view and enjoy..

The "Best Of The Best" pic I took was of this NINJA I spotted sitting alone trying its best to blend in with the environment ( see if u can spot the ninja aka chameleon ).....WAAAKAKAKAKKAKA

Drafted!!

That is an ORDER!!! was what got me drafted back into active service....

Aiyaaa...was contemplating to enlist myself in another alltogether "alien" but "can be done" field of service but the "that is an order" thingy got me shoved back into front line action amidst some futile protest on my side...sheeeshh!!

I must however thank a good brother of mine for advising me to "listen first" and to "capitalise on the opportunity".....thanks man but it feels so damn bad to make this decision after discussing so much with you...shit!! for that, please accept my sincerest apologies....hope you will allow my enlistment after the end of this particular "Tour Of Duty" cos I am seriously dead tired oledi.

BUT

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the unselfish advice on your part....for that I salute you.

The objective this time is not at all fun....I consider it a super stress ala microwave ala time bomb type of enviroment..no wonder the "Generals" made an about turn and told me to assist the chosen Major "Domo" General in this particular mother of all battles...

Anyway, my hearfelt thanks to all the people who has shown their faith and trust in me, I will try my best not to get KIA and obtain the desired results. At least, I have the knowledge of having a good team alongside me in this so called Battle For Midway...BAAAAAANZZZAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII.....DIE OSO DIE LAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR!!!!!! but seriously, I think it can be done lar...not that difficult loh..

One sentence to sum everything up: I really relish the challenge and I will try my best not to fall flat on my face
