Brothers In Arms

I sometimes sit with a beer in my hand, staring out into the emptiness thinking of my past, present and future. Am happy to see that a lot has been achieved by me being a husband, parent and friend. However, the same can’t be said with my working life…..let’s put in record that I have been in the Project and Construction line countless of donkey years working with the same company, which has the same unchanging philosophy, which has the same unchanging attitude towards its staffs and the same of..aaarrrrggg!!

Let it be said that there have been an influx of new staffs and departure of old staffs. New systems has been implemented…some good, some mediocre and some down right shitty.

So far, it has been ok for me…ok in the sense that the bosses do not really bug or disturb me. Salary, increments and incentives are ok, nothing great to shout about ( to fucking shy to even write it down…hehehe ). Benefits can be improved ( wishful thinking? ). Attitude of the Management / the Powers that be can be greatly improved ( yea…keep on dreaming la )

BUT how I wish they understand the meaning of “TEAMWORK” and VALUE IT. China man styled management will not work nowadays. Listening to matters with an open mind, taking constructive criticisms and fair chance is the word for success ( now and the future ).

Below quotes might help our cause or might not but what the hell……as they say in life “there is no satisfying everyone all of the time”

Thomas Edison, when asked why he had a team of twenty-one assistants
“If I could solve all the problems myself, I would”

Robert Yates
“It is amazing what can be accomplished when nobody cares about who gets the credit”

Coach Phil Jackson Chicago Bulls
“The strength of the team is each individual member...the strength of each member is the team”

Robert F. Bales
“Effective teamwork will not take the place of knowing how to do the job or how to manage the work. Poor teamwork, however, can prevent effective final performance. And it can also prevent team members from gaining satisfaction in being a member of a team and the organization”

Casey Stengel
“Gettin' good players is easy. Gettin' 'em to play together is the hard part”

Mark Twain
“Synergy — the bonus that is achieved when things work together harmoniously”

Douglas McGregor
“Most teams aren't teams at all but merely collections of individual relationships with the boss. Each individual is vying with the others for power, prestige and position”

Benjamin Franklin
“We must indeed all hang together, or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately”

Katzenbach & Smith
“Real teams don't emerge unless individuals in them take risks involving conflict, trust, inter-dependence and hard work”

How I wish, how we wish…let’s keep our fingers crossed that this year might be different from others. A toast to my colleagues and fighting companions wherever you might be…..YAAAAM SEEEENG!

2 every1 his/her OWN………………

you are right. getting a group of people to work harmoniously together is like getting two strangers to get married or stay in one house. very bloody hard. but the strength of the team is in the hands of the leader. very big job...big and difficult.

dear cuz, well said!!!

A leader can only work if the powers above supports him 110% irrespective how irrational his decisions might be at times....if not, then there is no point being a leader....hence the Chinaman way of working/management.
